Update 28 - Story mode pass 3, Adder Challenge and QOL improvements
Greetings, Hard Chip players!
Fast release mainly focused on bug fixing, adding quality-of-life improvements and balancing the Story Mode! Let's dig in:
1. Story Mode balancing: Previously, the story mode asked to build a Program Counter. Even though that challenge offered a nice set of consecutive puzzles, it needed to assemble circuits that weren't adequately validated by previously puzzles. You could manage to build a solution for a puzzle, only to fail when using it as a blueprint in the following puzzle. Plus, playing without timings that early was quite a step for a mechanic who doesn't have a proper introduction.
Introducing the 4 bits Full Adder challenge! It offers a less frustrating first goal. To have it functioning is way more predictable and properly validated by previous puzzles.
Countless other adjustments to texts, scripts and actions were done as well, resulting in a smoother experience.
2. New Numeric Validator and Expected Outputs to the right: for the 4-bit adder, having validation per bit was quite hard to read. Numerical value fixes just that:
Plus all Challenges have their inputs to the left (as previously) and all their outputs to the right. It helps tremendously with creating a blueprint out of a solved puzzle. The expected output blocks will adjust to the die length automatically.
3. "Save as blueprint" options: Blueprints are meant to be used a lot. To help smooth the experience of creating blueprints. You now have a "Save selection as Blueprint" along with "Save all as Blueprint" (as previously). The Story mode saves each puzzle as a blueprint as well (each puzzle builds on the previous ones).
4. QOL, Bug, and Crash fixes:
- Indicators that a blueprint has been saved
- Cube select is the default select mode (previously planar), you can still access planar select by holding the shift key.
- Removing test blueprints that were previously there.
- Debug boxes removed in the last stage
- Allocated simulation thread count is indicated in the benchmark now.
- Copy/Past respect forbidden blocks types
What's next? I think a simulation optimization pass, rendering optimization pass, and another round of UX QOL hold a more fun experience with the game as of today. Simulation is slower than the versions on large circuits. Rendering in Story mode is 'demanding'. And there is countless small hiccups here and there (for example: labels). Let's try to smooth all that out!
As always, your feedback/suggestions/comments are instrumental in making this game.
Thank you for playing Hard Chip, and stay tuned for more updates and new features!
